Spring Quarter 2009

****Wednesday, 4/15 -- Pacific University -- 7pm, Earl Warren Room, 3rd Floor of Price Center East. A representative will talk about the school's optometry program, admissions requirements, and the new centralized application system. There will also be free pizza and drinks! Don't miss it!

****Thursday, 4/23 -- Tour of San Diego Eyebank -- 7-9pm, limited carpools will be provided.
"The San Diego Eye Bank is a non-profit corporation committed to the restoration and preservation of sight. It is the largest eye bank in California. Through our Gift of Sight program, we proudly have helped restore sight to over 25,000 individuals who suffered from corneal blindness as a result of disease or injury. We provide a full range of tissue distribution services and support for medical and basic research."
This is a great opportunity to tour the facilities and learn about the role of this organization in helping people see again.

Where: 944 Balboa Ave Suite 100 (first floor, need to go through the door on the left near the pillar, it will have a sign on it)
25 people max
- if you want to go, need to have closed toes shoes.

You do not want to miss this! UCSD students who have applied to optometry schools will answer questions about the admissions process, interviews, OAT's, and much more. This is your chance to get first hand advice from students who have already gone through it all.

A Princeton Rep will be giving information about their OAT course. Information and sign ups will be available for the eyeglass drive and trip to Hoya labs.

**Tuesday, Jan. 20-Thursday, Jan. 22--Eyeglass Drive--10-2pm on Library Walk**
Ask your optometrist/friends/family/roommates for old eyeglasses to donate to the Lions Club of San Diego. If you can't make it to our table on library walk you can bring them to our GBM on the 15th. Sign up to help table at our GBM too.

**Friday, January 23--Hoya Labs--1:15pm meet at Peterson Loop**
Come get a tour of the Hoya Labs and learn how eyeglasses are made! You're welcome to drive yourself but if you want to carpool we are meeting at Peterson Loop first. More info about this at our GBM!!!

Sharon Joyce will be giving a talk on Berkeley's School of Optometry. Learn about requirements to apply and what the courses are like as an optometry student! Food will be provided.

Thursday 16th: State University of New York (SUNY) ---NSB 1205 @7:30PM
Dr. Johnston will be giving a talk on SUNY. Come learn about SUNY curriculum and get your questions answered.

Monday 20th: New England College of Optometry (NECO)---NSB 1205 @7:30PM

Thursday 23rd: Illinois College of Optometry (ICO)---Bear Room (formerly Gallery A in Sungod Lounge) @ 7:00pm

16 ~ Visit Hoya Labs: Tour one of the biggest labs in San Diego. Hoya makes and supplies
ophthalmic lenses to eye care professionals around San Diego.

17 ~ OAT Auction and Optomerty Applicants Panel: Come bid on a Kaplan OAT Course and stay for the Q&A section with UCSD students who have applied to Optometry Schools recently.
